Let's make Kol Ami services colorful with a rainbow of tallitot (prayer shawls)!
Join Rabbi Julie Gordon for a hands-on workshop to create your very own tallit (prayer shawl). Participants will learn how to tie the tzitzit (fringes) on their new tallit so that it is ready for use in services.
Open to everyone, including teens and B-Mitzvah students. Space is limited to 20 people.
Important Info Before the Workshop
There are two items you'll need to send Rabbi Julie by February 20 in order to participate in the March 15 workshop.
First, the shawl. You can use a shawl you already own or purchase a new one. Feel free to select a solid color or pattern, with or without fringes. Average dimensions of the shawl would be approximately 74" x 29." Many suitable and low-cost shawls can be found online. Examples can be found on Etsy here and here.
Second, the atarah (shoulder piece at the top of the tallit), if you want one. The atarah traditionally distinguishes the top of the tallit and has the Hebrew blessing written out, which helps when putting on the tallit. It could also feature an artistic pattern. If you would like an atarah, please select one of your choice from among such places as Ben's Tallit Shop, Zion Judaica, or Judaica Embroidery.
Have your shawl and atarah mailed to Rabbi Julie Gordon by February 20th. She will arrange for a tailor to sew in buttonholes on the four corners of the shawl and attach the atarah at the top. Rabbi Julie's address will be provided in the registration confirmation and email.
The workshop fee of $36 will help cover the cost of the tailor's services and ritual fringes. Thank you for your assistance.
